One day, I took my kids to the local playground. The minute we got there, my daughter ran to the swing (秋千) and asked for a push. When I was helping my daughter, I 1 another girl trying to make her own swing go high by herself. Her old grandmother smiled at me, 2 on the chair nearby. Maybe she was too old and tired to play together with her granddaughter.
I gave my daughter a big push and then walked towards the little girl. I asked gently 3 I could do for her. She smiled and said quietly but happily, with her big shining eyes, "Could you please give me a push, too?" For the next two hours, I kept pushing the swings and playing with my two little children and the little girl. When we got home, I was very tired. But my heart was flying much 4 than the swings.
One day, two years later, after a long day's work, I was a bit tired. But I needed to 5 kids before going home. While I was waiting outside the school gate beside my car, a little girl came over and smiled sweetly at me. She gave me a big hug 6 she got on her school bus. As I watched her running away, I didn't feel 7 anymore.
In life, the love we give to 8 will find its way back to us. It may travel from heart to 9 or it may blossom (开花) in the heart which it was planted in. The love we share, the kindness we give, and the happiness we create will always come back to us 10 a big surprise.

lying 躺,现在分词; lied 过去式; was lying 过去进行时; to lie 动词不定式。结合语境下句 “Maybe she was too old and tired to play together with her granddaughter” 可知大概她奶奶太老了躺在椅子上,后面部分是伴随状语,主语 Her old grandmother 与动词 lie 是主动关系,所以用现在分词做伴随状语,故选 A 。
3 .
who 谁; what 什么; how 怎样; why 为何。根据下文 “Could you please give me a push, too” 可知这里是作者问小女孩能为她做什么事情,应该使用疑问词用 what ,故选 B 。
4 .
look up 查询; put up 举起; pick up 去接某人; take up 从事,占据。根据下文中的 “While I was waiting outside the school gate beside my car” 可知,作者去了学校大门口接女儿回家,故选 C 。
6 .
before 之前; until 到 …… 根据 “She gave me a big hug” 和 “she got on her school bus” 之间的关系可知,小女孩先给我拥抱,再上校车,所以用 before ,故选 A 。
7 .
本段第一句 “One day, two years later, after a long day's work, I was a bit tired.”
短语 from heart to heart 以心会心;根据前面 from heart 可知是从心到心,故选 B 。
10 .
to 到; of……

It’s always challenging to face fear. Here are some ways to help you overcome(克服)it.
Breathing
As we know, breathing can help us relax. If you purposely breathe out longer than you breathe in, your body will calm down. If you start to feel fearful, try this. Take a breath in (to a count of 7 in your mind), and then slowly breathe out (to a count of 11 in your mind). To your surprise, if you do this for a minute or so, you’ll calm down quickly. We call this "7/11 breathing".
Using a different part of your brain
When we feel fearful, it’s harder to think clearly. But if we force ourselves to use the part of thinking brain, this will help to calm us down. The easiest way to do this is with numbers. You can set your own fear from l to 10, 10 being the worst state and 1 being the most relaxed state. When you’re feeling fearful, ask yourself; “Okay, what grade do I get right now? 7 or 5?” Just doing this will reduce fear because it starts the thinking brain. Once I gave a speech to three hundred people and I felt fearful. So I graded myself at 6, and waited for myself to go down to 3 before starting. I took control.
Getting control of your imagination
Imagine seeing yourself in the situation you were scared, but see yourself being calm and things going well. Doing this starts to recondition your mind to more calmly face the coming events which were causing fear.
It seems that overcoming fear is always the first step to finish all you need to do and it will help you devote yourself to what you really want to be and to do. It takes efforts, but it’s worth your try.
