1.

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(ABCD)中,选出最佳选项。

Dear Lauren

I really need help with my friends. My two best friends Julia and Meredith were mad at each other because Julia lied to Meredith, and Meredith almost got in trouble for it. And now I don't know if they're getting along or not. And the worst part is that I don't know if I should be friends with Julia anymore. But I've known both of them since the first grade! What should I do? Please help!

Jennifer

Hey Jennifer!

I think before you consider ending your friendship with Julia, you need to find out both sides of the story and how Julia and Meredith feel about each other. Don't be afraid to ask them what's going on; since you're friends with both of them, this involves you. However, make sure you don't say anything you wouldn't want Julia or Meredith to know. There's a big difference between listening to your friends' problems and gossiping. You're in a hard situation, and you have to be careful of what you say. Even if Meredith and Julia aren't friends, you can still be friends with both of them. To make you “pick” between them is not fair for either of them. If you end one of your friendships, keep in mind that it's natural for even friends who have known each other for a really long time to grow apart. Good luck, and take it easy!

Lauren

1Why did Jennifer write the letter for help?

AShe had an argument with her friends.

BShe told a lie to her friends.

  CHer friends fought each other.

DShe didn't know if she should keep her friendship with Julia.

2How long has Jennifer known her friends?

AOnly one year. BFor a long time.

CSeveral days.                 DSeveral months.

3What should Jennifer do for her friends?

AShe should gossip about what her friends did.

BShe shouldn't make friends with them if they aren't friends any more.

CShe should listen to her friends' problems and help them.

DShe should get tired of them, but it's bad to break the friendship.

4What do you think may happen according to Lauren's advice?

AMeredith and Julia don't keep friends, and Jennifer isn't their  friends, either.

BJennifer is so scared that she gives up her friends.

CJennifer pays more attention to her words, and she tries her best to make her friends get along well.

DJennifer tries not to ask what her friends feel about each other  in order to keep their friendship.

Although many people agree that junk food is unhealthy and has little nutrition, they are still fond of it.

Why do people like it?

The name “junk food” first appeared in 1972. Over the years, it has become popular with many people.

Suppliers are fond of it because it is cheap to make and easy to keep for a long time. Many consumers are fond of it because it is easy to buy and it tastes good.

What is junk food?

Junk food has a lot of fat, salt or sugar and many food additives. Scientists believe that eating a lot of junk food makes people overweight. People may also have their heart disease, high blood pressure and tooth problems if they eat too much junk food.

What food is called junk food?

This is a difficult question. Different people may give different answers. For example, fast food such as hamburgers, pizza and French fries, is often regarded as junk food. Other food, such as roast potatoes and bread, is not junk food although it has limited nutrition. Also, candy and soft drinks are junk food because they have  a lot of sugar, but honey and grapes are not. Many people prefer to  have cereal at breakfast because it is healthy food, but breakfast cereals may have lots of sugar, salt and fat.

Should children eat junk food?

When children start eating junk food, they will have less and less  milk and healthy fruit juice. This can make them have weak bones.

However, some junk food, such as chips, may be good to children because it may have necessary fat. However, since they are fat,  children should not eat too much.

To many scientists' opinion, junk food is not very harmful when  people have it as a part of a balanced diet.

Sixteen years ago, I learned an important life lesson in the back of a New York City taxi.

I was on my way to Grand Central Station, and we were driving in the right lane when a black car suddenly sped out of a parking space right in front of us.

My driver hit the brakes hard, skidded, and missed the other car by a few inches. The driver of the other car, the man who had just nearly caused a huge accident, started shouting at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at him. He was really friendly!

Why did you just do that?” I asked him. This guy almost destroyed your car and could have sent us to the hospital!”

This was when my taxi driver told me what I now call “the Law of Garbage Trucks”

Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of anger, and full of disappointment,” he said. “As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it, and if you let them do, they'll dump it on you. So when someone wants to dump on you, just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. You'll be happier because of what you have done.”

I started thinking, how often do I let Garbage Trucks run right over me? And how often do I take their garbage and dump it on other people—at work, at home, or on the street? It was on that day that I said, “I'm not going to dump anymore.”

1What happened when the writer was taking a taxi?

   AHe saw a car accident.

   BSomeone destroyed the taxi.

   CThe taxi driver was injured.

DAnother car almost hit the taxi.

2How did the taxi driver deal with the other driver's behavior?

AHe shouted back at the driver.

BHe sent the driver to the hospital.

CHe was friendly towards the driver.

DHe dumped some garbage in front of his car.

3What does the taxi driver mean when he says “Many people are    like garbage trucks”

AMany people like to drive garbage trucks.

BMany people dump garbage wherever they like.

CMany people are warmhearted and make others happy.

DMany people need to dump their feelings now and then.

4According to the passage, what should you do if people “dump garbage” on you?

ADump your garbage on him or her, too.

BBe friendly and go on with your own work.

CTell them to dump their garbage in the right place.

DTry your best to encourage them not to do that again.
