根据后文 “red is exciting.” 故选 A

根据前文 “Warm colors are red…red is exciting.”

stand up 站立起来; warm up 温暖; calm down (使)平静下来; break down 发生故障。根据后文 “When people… usually quiet.”

根据上文 “sociable ( 好交际的 ) people who like to work with others like red.”

and 和; except 除了; or 否则; than 更。

So 所以; Because 因为; But 但是; Or 否则。 故选 A

where 指代地点; who 指代人; when 指代时间; what 什么。

根据前文 “When people are … usually quiet” 可知冷色调能让人安静,让人心绪平和,与 calm 相近的是 relaxed 。故选 C

on …… 上; at 在(某处); in …… 里面; of…… 的。根据 “cool colours remind them of cool days.” 。故选 D

Taking care of pets can be a great way to teach children responsibility, but it's important to be realistic (现实的). If you're keen on bringing an animal into your home and you've designed a plan for its proper care, here are some choices.

• FISH

First-time owners should consider getting cold-water fish as no tank (鱼缸) heater is required. They should research what kinds of fish get along in the same tank, and be aware of life expectancies-some goldfish can live up to 20 years.

• RABBITS

Though rabbits, or nickname bunnies, may seem like a lovely choice, they can live up to ten years and require an amount of care similar to that of a dog or cat. They have their special diet needs, and often don't behave well around small children. Each year, quite a lot of Easter bunnies become homeless when families feel tired of them.

These small animals are ideal starter pets. Their cages must be cleaned daily, and they require toys to keep their ever growing teeth in check. Once they're used to the new way of life, guinea pigs need daily exercise in a small room without cracks or holes for escape. They don't want to be alone, but if you get two, make sure they're the same sex or they'll have babies.

• BIRDS

Fond of a fixed timetable, birds require feeding at the same time each day. Cages should be cleaned daily and disinfected (消毒) weekly. Birds clean themselves by bathing in dishes of water and grow in cages big enough to spread their wings and fly a short time.

44All the following pets are recommended in the passage EXCEPT ________

ARabbits                  BCats                       CGuinea pigs            DBirds

45As a beginner to raise fish, you'd better ________ in a tank.

Aget some cold-water fish, which get along well     Bget some warm-water fish, which get along well

Cget some cold-water fish and some warm-water fish     Dget only one cold-water fish or warm-water fish

46Rabbits can live up to ________ years, as long as dogs or cats.

Afive                       Bten                         Ctwenty                   Dthirty

47________ are necessary for Guinea pigs to play with or grow.

ATank heaters           BCages                     CToys                      DCracks or holes

48The underlined word "fixed" from the passage means ________.

Aregular                   Brepaired                  Cfull                        Dmixed

49The passage is mainly written to ________.

Aofficers working for SPCA                         Bstaff from the local zoo

It was a cool spring morning back in 2009 and I had just started a morning shift as a school crossing guard. Looking out for the children, I suddenly noticed something at sideways. Behind me I first thought it was a small, overweight dog heading towards me. I didn't think much about it, and looked carefully at any approaching children, as well as enjoying the morning sun.

What is wrong with that dog? I thought later on, as I looked back to check on the small dog—it was moving much too fast for itself.

A few minutes later, I felt as if I was being watched, I looked behind me, but the dog had disappeared. Then, as I slowly turned my attention back to the road, I was greatly surprised to see a large koala at my feet and staring right up at me. A number of different solutions crossed my mind. But staying calm was the best. "Are you waiting to cross the road?" I asked the sweet koala. Miss Koala looked away, and scratched (抓挠) behind her ear.

Then it got up on all four feet and impatiently started to cross the road. I quickly checked for any cars, then walked to the road with my stop sign held high, whistle (吹哨) to my lips, and held my breath.

The koala made it to the other side of the street, then continued following the path through the trees and disappeared into bushes.

So why did the koala cross at the school crossing? To safely get to the trees on the other side!

Isaac Newton once said, “Nature is no fool.” Indeed, Mother Nature can    9    almost everything humans need if we follow her    10   . But if we break them, she is likely to be    11    and attack us.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Dr. Peter Daszak said, “This outbreak is a lesson for us. On a global scale(规模), human population density(密度), wildlife diversity(多样性), and land use change are what    15    new disease.”

In ancient times, people needed to rely on nature to survive    16    they held it in awe(敬畏). For example, the American Indians believed that humans are a part of nature and nature is a part of humans. Chinese ancients always pursued(追求) the    17    between nature and humans.

However, as humans    18    more knowledge and make more advanced tools, people try to change and even conquer nature.    19    use more land to make buildings, catch some wild and rare animals to meet their own needs. In this    20   , humans    21    lose contact with nature and even throw it out of balance. Moreover, cutting a large number of forests means carbon dioxide must build up in the atmosphere and it    22    to global warming.

Although we don’t know for sure what first caused the NCP    23   , experts said it’s time for people to “reflect on our relationship with our planet” and “reconnect with this world and everything that we’ve been given”. After all, according to US poet Gary Snyder, “Nature is not the place you visit. It’s our home.”
