阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有一项为多余选项。

Imagine you are studying English, then you feel the need to check your phone. 1 This process, when repeated many times, could reduce( 降低 )your ability to learn new materials. It is what you might call a bad habit.

2 Wendy Wood is a psychologist( 心理学家 ) and an expert on habits. In her book Good Habits, Bad Habits, she points out that repeatedly checking the phones is one of the bad habits. She offers some ideas on how people can cut back on their cell phone use.

One suggestion is to wear a watch. 3

Another suggestion is to increase the number of steps you need to take in order to use your cell phone. “Silence it. Turn it off… Turn on Flying Mode,” she writes. 4 For example, you can put your phone inside a backpack.

Wood also suggests another way to reduce the use of your cell phone. She says you can ask one of your family members to watch you and remind you every time you check your phone.

Finally, Wood suggests one kind of reward( 奖励 ), you could give yourself for not looking at your phone reading a good book.

Today, we discussed ideas for reducing your cell phone use. 5 Habit changes take time. But with planning, repetition and insistence, you can do it.

A You can also use these ideas to break other bad behaviors.

B Today we will discuss how you can break such a kind of bad habit.

C Perhaps you are learning new words and expressions on your phone.

D This will give you no excuse for looking at the phone—checking the time.

E.You return to your study, only to look again at your phone a short time later.

F.She adds that you can move your phone to a place that is more difficult to reach.

The face-down generation(一代)

If you were born in the 2000s, you are called the oh-ohs. The 21stcentury. That would make you young, creative, connected, world-wide, and no doubt smart. Maybe good-looking, too. Right? But what do other people think about your generation?

Some adults worry that you're more interested in the screen in front of you than the world around you. They think of you as the "face-down generation" because you use your phone so much. They wonder how you will deal with school, friends, and family.

Other adults worry that today's youth are spoilt (溺爱) and don't want to face the challenges of adult life. Many children born in the 1990s and 2000s were raised by "helicopter parents". They were always there to guide and help their children with a busy program filled with homework and after-school activities such as dancing, drawing, or sports. With parents who do everything for them, today's youth seem to prefer to live like teenagers even when they are in their 20s or 30s.

Does the face-down generation need a heads-up? Well, probably not. The fact is that many of today's teenagers are better educated and more creative than past generations. They seem to be willing to become leaders. More young people than ever volunteer to help their communities. There are also brave young people such as Malala Yousafzai, the teenager who won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize for pushing girls' rights to go to school.

So if you're one of the oh-ohs, there's reason to be hopeful about the future. Things are looking up for the face-down generation. Chances are that you do great and laugh out loud.

69If Alice was born in 2004, is she an oh-oh?

When you think of the Arctic (北极), you imagine an icy land of pure white snow. Others imagine it as the last really clean place left on earth. We have polluted the deepest oceans with plastic rubbish. “And now”, CNN says, “It’s the Arctic’s turn.”

German scientists have recently found microplastics in Arctic snow. Microplastics are pieces of plastic smaller than 5 millimeters. Sadly, the scientists found 1800 pieces of microplastics per liter of (每升) snow.

How is plastic pollution reaching the Arctic? According to scientists, “It’s clear that most of the microplastics in the snow come from the air.” They fall off the plastic objects and are moved by the wind, just like dust. They mix with ice in the air and fall to the ground as snow. Finding these plastics in Arctic snow means that we may breathe them in.

Are they bad for us? Scientists cannot answer this question for now, according to the WHO. We do know that our bodies cannot take in “large” pieces of microplastics. However, if the plastics are small enough, they can find ways into our bodies and stay there for a long time, which can be bad for our health. What’s more, earlier studies have shown that microplastics may contribute to lung cancer risk.

Microplastics have also been found in rivers and oceans around the world. Earlier research has found that they flow over long distances and into our oceans, hurting ecosystems along the way. They start in our wastewater, then flow into rivers and out to the sea, where they are eaten by sea animals. If people then eat these animals, it means that we’re eating the plastic as well.

31We can learn from Paragraph 1 that________.

Athe Arctic is the last really clean place left on earth

Bthe Arctic is an icy land of pure white snow

Cthe Arctic is a beautiful icy land with clean air

D the Arctic has been polluted by plastic rubbish

32The underlined word “contribute” means “_______” in Chinese.

A增加  B捐献  C造成  D……原因之一

33Where do most of the microplastics in the snow come from?

AFrom water.            BFrom air.                CFrom wind.            DFrom food.

34Which of the following isn’t true?

AWe may breathe microplastics in Arctic.

BMicroplastics may cause lung cancer.

CWe don’t have to mind microplastics right now.

D Microplastics have hurt ecosystems.

35How does the writer end this passage?

ABy advising us to drink clean water.

BBy asking people not to eat sea animals.

CBy telling the seriousness of plastic pollution.

DBy showing the beauty of Arctic.
