As more and more children become obese(肥胖的),schools in the US are trying to encourage students to become more active and make healthier food choices. In Dillwyn, Viginia, the educators built an “active” green school to deal with student obesity.
The school appears to be just like any other beautiful school. However, if you look closer, you will notice that the students are always moving. In the classrooms, students are wriggling(扭动) on the seats. During breaks, you’ll find students rushing out for a 10-minute physical activity break.
But physical activity alone is not enough; food intake(摄取量) is also important. The school has an open kitchen. It allows students to watch the food as it is being prepared and make healthier choices. A teaching kitchen allows kids to experiment(做实验) with different recipes(食谱). And a working laboratory allows them to do food science experiments. There is also a school garden where students and even family members can grow vegetables together.
So is the “active” green school working? The results are not out yet, but parents and teachers think that the kids seems to be a lot happier.

Children know that summer is probably the most fun of all seasons. However, experts say it is also the most dangerous, especially, for children aged 14 and under. In its first study of children's safety in the US, the National Safe Kids Campaign (NSKC) found that nearly half of the injury-related (与受伤相关的) deaths among children happen in summer.
Experts are not surprised by the study’s results. They always know summer is a dangerous season for children. During the summer, children are out of school and spend more time outdoors. They are more likely to get into an accident or be injured. "While we encourage children to be active and spend time outdoors, they need to understand the importance of safety," said Everett Koop, an expert of the NSKC.
To help children stay safe, the NSKC started a "Make it a Safe Kids Summer" Campaign (运动) during National Safe Kids Week, from May 5 to May 12. Here are some important summer safety tips from the NSKC:
● Always wear your seat belt.
● Make sure there is an adult around when you decide to go swimming.
● Wear a life jacket (救生衣) when on a boat or doing water sports.
● Obey all traffic rules.

How can I become a better person? This question has been in my head for long. As students, we spend most of our time studying. I know learning at school, of course, makes us better persons, but I always dream of doing more.
Last year, I got to know a group of autistic(患自闭症的)children. We called them "the Snails(蜗牛)". It was hard to communicate with them at first, because they wouldn't like to. After a two-week training, I became more skilled. I got closer to them day by day. To my surprise, I found that every one of "the Snails" had his or her own talent And their colorful pictures on the wall attracted my special attention, though it was difficult to tell what they were trying to express.
Moved by their pictures, I decided to hold a charity (慈善) sale. We walked on the busy street, selling their creative pictures. We sold 60picturesthat day. People thought their pictures were full of imagination.
Back to the question about how to become a better person, I think I am lucky enough to get my own answer.

We all need a healthy environment, but we produce waste every day, and it is harmful to our environment. Repeat these three words daily: reduce, reuse and recycle.
Reduce
Reduce means "use less". Do not waste things. It saves money and causes less pollution. Do not order more food than you can finish 当你不需要的时候就把灯关上。Before you buy something new, think whether it is really necessary because maybe the old one is just as good!
Reuse
Reuse means "use again". Use things for as long as possible Look after them so that they will last. Repair them if possible Do not throw them away and buy new ones. Do not use paper cups or paper bags.
Recycle
Recycle means "change things into something else to be reused". We throw tons of rubbish away each year, and we have to make a change. Divide your rubbish into plastic, glass, paper and rubber. Develop a recycling policy for the whole community. Buy products such as recycled paper to help save trees.
